DREIx3x2x2D (2003) Animations for "First flush", a selection of animations for mobile phones shown as part of the exhibition "Virtual Frame " at Kunsthalle, Wien, February 2004. Sponsored by 3G mobile phone operator Hutchison 3G ("3"), Austria. Curator team Liquid Frontiers invited 20 designers and artists to submit 6 animation each, to be displayed on next-generation mobile phones as proof of content delivery on the new multimedia-friendly phones. Hutchison 3G is a multimedia-only mobile service provider. My animations were generated computationally with no post-editing. Abstract 2D shapes were used with 3D transformations to create a feeling of space, while a self-imposed limit of 3 colors per animation was used to force a stringency of composition. A standing format was adopted, since most phones have a 3:4 pixel ratio. Bold colors and shapes were used to compensate for the fact that the animations will be shown in very small formats ( as small as 98x130 pixels). The animations are now available for download from Hutchison 3G, in their "Kunst & Kultur" channel. Built with Processing. -> Watch the animations (183 seconds, 13.7 MB, requires Quicktime 4) |
