Vattenfall media facade: Garden (2004.0828)

With ART+COM, lead designer Andreas Schlegel. Followed by the Neon Organic animation in 2005.

The power provider Vattenfall commissioned a media facade for its corporate headquarters in Chaussestrasse, Berlin. The facade is made up of 5 projections in a vertical strip and 11 projections in a horizontal strip. The technical solution is a prerendered computational animation that treats both of these as large single surfaces, which are then split up and played back in a synchronized fashion on the individual projectors.

The launch of the facade coincided with the Lange Nacht der Museen, whose theme this year was "Castles and gardens". The decision was therefore made to focus on tree and flower shapes, subtly animating over the scope of 8 minutes to provide an ambient virtual garden.
